Council Approves Small-Business Tax Break

03.21.2017

At the request of Commissioner of the Revenue, Todd Divers, and City Treasurer, Jason Vandever, City Council unanimously approved an ordinance change last night providing tax relief to over 400 small and growing businesses in the City of Charlottesville. The change means that businesses grossing between $50,000 and $100,000 annually will only pay a $50 license fee, instead of a rate-based tax, savings each business several hundred dollars a year. The proposal was endorsed by the Chamber of Commerce and the Charlottesville Business Innovation Council.
